Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World is an interesting true-life tale of a loving long-haired orange tabby cat known as Dewey.

In this story, readers are taken through nineteen years of unending charm, humility, and warmth from a feline that wins the heart of everyone both near and wide.

Dewey’s story begins in an unpleasant way, on a cold winter night in Spencer, Iowa when he was stuffed in the after-hours drop box at the Spencer, Iowa Public Library. The next morning Vicky Myron, the library director found and nursed the tender male kitten, which was suffering from frostbite back to health.

Dewey’s great personality, super friendly nature, funny habits, and antics make him a popular figure within the town. Except for a short period when he sent missing, Dewey spent most of his time in the library.

This adorable little cat wins the hearts of both Vicky and the other staff members. Eventually, the lovely orange kitten was adopted as the library cat. He was named “Dewey Readmore Books” with inspiration gotten from the inventor of the Dewey Decimal library classification system (Melvil Dewey) and cartoon library cat (Cap’n O. G. Readmore).

Dewey’s great personality, super friendly nature, funny habits, and antics make him a popular figure within the town. Except for a short period when he sent missing, Dewey spent most of his time in the library.

His journey to global fame began after he won a charity pet photography contest which was covered in a popular daily morning newspaper. This feature led to an increase in local and state publicity both in television and print media. Dewey’s appearance in the documentary “Puss in Books” gained him further recognition and skyrocketed him to superstardom.

Dewey’s discovery and survival was most definitely a blessing to the library staff, readers, and the tiny midwestern farming community stricken by severe economic difficulty.
