Future of Works & Working Models During and After the COVID-19

BY RAMCHANDRA KC

SOME FEW MONTHS AGO, THE DEADLY CORONAVIRUS TOOK THE WORLD by surprise, and ever since then, it has rapidly transformed the way we live amongst other things.

Amidst stay at home and shelter in place orders, a lot of workers cannot help but ask, “what the future of work is?”

The answer lies in how you might have been working these past few months. From working on your bed, sofa, and dining tables, to taking part in countless zoom calls, online staff meetings, and briefings.

As much as you try to remain optimistic in these uncertain times, you can’t help but think about what other changes to your job lie ahead.

These striking results show strongly that a huge percent of workers would prefer to proceed with a work from home policy.

Here are some ways that the coronavirus pandemic might transform the way you work:

More Remote Working

According to a survey by workplace analytics, out of almost 3000 respondents, 77% would prefer to continue working from home at least once weekly, (even if lockdown restrictions are lifted), 68% are very successful working from home and 77% feel they are more productive working from home, due to lesser unwanted interruptions and distractions. These striking results show strongly that a huge percent of workers would prefer to proceed with a work from home policy. While this may not apply or best suited for every job, some organizations might permit more remote working for some of their employees.

Increased Monitoring of Employees by Employers

Employers that allow their employees to work remotely, may increase the level at which they monitor their work. This is to ensure that they are compliant with approved work hours and completing all their tasks diligently.

Fewer In-person Meetings

After the coronavirus pandemic passes, workers can expect fewer in-person meetings. If there is a need for strategic group discussions between staff, flexible forms of communication like video conferencing will most definitely be the first pick.

New Work Space Layout

Offices will still exist as not everyone will work from home. In this case, employees will want to create a safe workspace by remodeling offices to be in line with public health safety standards.

Organizations with large open floor plans might be replaced with some form of partition or cubicle. Every change in the office space structure will be a measure to keep everyone safe as they perform their individual jobs.
